OUR STORY
The Swanky Fox is a small start-up from Toronto, Canada. The founder, Ben Steele, has spent over 20 years working in the advertising and marketing industry. Over the past 5-years, he became an avid cyclist, a sport which meshed well with his passion for the outdoors and wildlife. One thing that struck him was the lack of fun and well-designed cycling wear at reasonable prices. So, drawing on his decades of creative expression in a visual industry, Ben set out to design and produce a stylish yet affordable line of cycling apparel and accessories that also help support environmental initiatives.
OUR NAME
We wanted a name that spoke to style but also had local significance. In the spring of 2020, a family of red foxes (two parents and seven kits) made their den under a section of the quieter-than-usual boardwalk in the Beaches area of Toronto. The animals’ brashness and swagger inspired the name Swanky Fox.
This unusual event garnered lots of local interest from people wanting to see and hold the young foxes. Quickly, a movement sprung up, with over 60 volunteers taking shifts to protect them from human contact. (You can read more about the story here.) This collective act of concern and need to protect the wildlife served as motivation for us to join onepercentfortheplanet.org to help preserve and foster the wildlife and natural environments we have here in Canada.
